Since it's a holiday and I'm feeling super free, decided to take out my past sketches and stuff to scan!! Lots of memories of the 10 days in london and paris just came flooding back as I scanned the images. So thankful for the experience even now, almost a year later!!! Here are some simple stuff I did when we were on our London/Paris 2010 trip from my sketchbook. Click Read More>>!
1. Random sketches I did on the moving bus in Paris on 28th May. I can still remember the bus jerking while I was frantically sketching. Never got to complete each in detail, but I just love how the architecture of the simplest things like street lamp posts were sooo exquisite and intricate (especially the pale green one, bottom left), nothing like the boring ones we have in singapore hahahah.
2. Colour pencil sketch of a sculpture from the Brancusi workshop near Centre Pompidou in Paris
The works in the Brancusi workshop were pretty much African-mask influenced, there were lots of sculptures if I remember correctly. The shapes were all rather simplified as seen above.
3. Sketch of a typical Nikon DSLR that I did the day before we flew back to sg. I remember the ceaseless click of the cameras and snap of the flashes throughout the entire trip. There were so many DSLRs on the trip!!!! Used cross-hatching quite abit for this, and if you notice there are some parts that are really out of proportion oops.
4. Top left: "The Boulevard Montmarte at Night" by Camille Pissaro @ National Gallery in London (26/05)
Bottom: "Whaam!" by Roy Lichtenstein @ Tate Modern in London (27/05)
Top right: "Interieur jaune et bleu" by Henri Matisse @ Pompidou in Paris (28/05)
We went to museums every single day! I especially enjoyed the exhibition at Tate Modern that was all about Roy Lichtenstein and his wacky works. These are some colour pencil sketches of works that caught my eye at the respective museums, and of course those were just 1 of many many many!!
5. Colour pencil sketch of "Eiffel Tower"(1926) by Robert Delaunay, a French painter who loved the bold use of colour. I really like this work of his as it is very very colourful, with a wide range of rich colours used. There's also a great use of contrasting colours to add to the appeal of the work, and at the same time really symbolic of Paris. Sadly, I didn't get to complete it due to time constraints.
6. Pencil sketch of the white horse in "TĂȘte de cheval blanc" by Theodore Gericault. I think this was @ the Louvre Museum in Paris! One of the quieter floors where there were other artists painting replicas of many of the other works around. My horse's eyes are a little too far apart haha.
7. Colour pencil/ pen drawing of the lights and huge clock in Musee de Orsay!!!! Love the intricate curvatures in the designs, especially the clock-- it's just a clock but I was in awe as I studied the precise patterns and ornaments around it. Once again incomplete due to time constraints, but I'll never forget the gruelling process of sketching the crazy clock out with shiyin :-)
8. Colour pencil sketch of a scene in Monet's Garden in Giverny! My hands got totally frozen and I got a fever the next day just for this really rough sketch hahahah. I remember about 6-7 of us squeezing into 2 benches at the garden, each using different mediums (watercolour, pencil, pen, colour pencil etc) to create our own little sketches of the same frame. And we were like tourist attractions!! People frequenting the area were really attracted by us Asian girls being all artistic in the garden!
*THE END*
